Connor McDavid remains without a contract extension and today an NHL analyst compared his future to NBA superstar LeBron James. Over the last several weeks, reports have been flying around regarding <a href='https://www.hockeylatest.com/nhl-team/edmonton-oilers/nhl-insider-john-shannon-reveals-shocking-update-on-connor-mcdavid-contract-extension' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>potential extension talks between Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.</a> While it is believed the two sides have had little to no negotiations all sides seem confident a deal will get done likely on a short to mid term length extension. <div align='center' class='pl20 pr20'><blockquote class='twitter-tweet' data-lang='en'><a href='https://twitter.com/br_openice/status/1950253565202637169'><div style='border:1px solid #CCCCCC;border-radius:10px;padding:20px;width:300px;'>Loading from Twitter ...</div></a></blockquote></div> During a recent conversation on Overdrive, former Oiler Jason Strudwick and NHL analyst Dave Feschuk discussed McDavid's future and compared him to Los Angeles Laker LeBron James. <h3>Connor McDavid Contract Saga Compared To LeBron James Before Leaving Cleveland</h3> During the conversation, Jason Strudwick was adamant that the Oilers have no choice to build around McDavid like he is a LeBron level talent. Oh, yeah. And I understand it. Like, I get where that's coming from, but I mean, why wouldn't you try to win when you have LeBron or Connor McDavid? I don't really understand that logic. Maybe the other people have suggestions of or examples of players that have been misused by teams. In response, David Feschuk brings up the idea that like LeBron leaving Cleveland McDavid could be forced to leave Edmonton if they cannot get over the championship finish line. Maybe they can't win, Strudwick. Maybe that's the thing, like if he can't win here, maybe he's got to go somewhere else, While this is a compelling argument LeBron James in his first stint with Cleveland lacked any true support system or talent around him and was not a free agent destination even with his talent. In the case of McDavid and the Oilers, he of course has Leon Draisaitl but Stan Bowman and the front office have also done a great job of bringing in outside talent as well. If McDavid heads into the regular season without an extension then the comparisons to a LeBron James type situation become more relevant but at the end of the day he has so many more reasons to stick around in Edmonton long-term.
