Jeremy Swayman was potentially available for trade, and now the Oilers are taking criticism from a top analyst after they failed to land the star goaltender.

The Edmonton Oilers are in need of an upgrade in net, and around the National Hockey League, that's no secret, although the team chose to stand pat and not make a move to improve their goaltending this summer.
One player they've constantly been linked to is Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who went through a very public contract dispute between the team before signing an eight-year, $66 million deal with them last summer.

Oilers failed to capitalize on the drama surrounding Swayman

Now, on the latest episode of The Sheet with Jeff Marek, NHL Insider Pierre McGuire talked about the drama surrounding Swayman, all while criticizing the Oilers for failing to capitalize and land the Vezina caliber goaltender.
"I'm just wondering... did they miss out on Ullmark, and did they miss out on Swayman? The only reason I bring it up is I was living in Boston, and it was volatile beyond belief with what was going on with the goaltending situation there. And I just wonder if they didn't miss out on hitting a homerun with Boston to solidify their goaltending."

Unfortunately for Swayman and the Bruins, he would struggle in the first year after signing that deal, posting a 3.11 GAA and an .892 save percentage on the season, once again raising questions over his future.
This time, the Oilers can't miss out if he ever becomes available, but if they had their chances over, Edmonton would likely look to be more aggressive, as this inactivity may have been the thing that cost them a Stanley Cup.

Should the Edmonton Oilers have been more aggressive in pursuing Swayman?
