Tonight, a new report has confirmed that the Nashville Predators have interviewed a pair of GM candidates with strong ties to the Edmonton Oilers.
Earlier this season, Nashville Predators GM Barry Trotz confirmed he’d be stepping down at the end of the 2025-26 season and retiring once his replacement is found.
Since then, the Predators have been in pursuit of a new General Manager and interviewed several candidates which to this point had been anonymous.
Today, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that former Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli and current Oilers assistant GM Bill Scott both conducted first interviews with Nashville.
Elliotte Friedman confirms Predators interviewed two candidates with Oilers connections
Friedman believes the Preds are starting out interviewing a mass amount of candidates before narrowing their list meaning that Chiarelli and Scott are by no means finalists as of now.
Nashville is shrinking its list of GM contenders. I don’t believe any external candidate has interviewed in-person. Not sure of the timeline, but that’s going to change in the near future. In addition to the already reported names, others who have been spoken to include St. Louis Vice-President of Hockey Operations Peter Chiarelli and an intriguing fresh name, Edmonton assistant GM Bill Scott. It’s a wide net and we’re still figuring out who else is involved.
As the end of the season approaches and the Predators conduct second and potentially even third interviews that will be when both Chiarelli or Scott could become serious candidates.
If the Oilers lose Scott it would be a huge blow to their front office and Stan Bowman would have a big hire to make while also trying to fix several holes on the roster.
As more information is given on the Predators GM search we will pass along the latest news to you.
