Multiple Fights Occur During Edmonton Oilers Watch Party

Following the Oilers eliminating the Los Angeles Kings from the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs in game five at Rogers Arena, fans wanted to bring the physicality off the ice and into the watch party. Fists were flying and YEGWave on X (formerly Twitter) posted multiple videos of escalating tensions between fans.

While disagreements are natural between sports fans, especially in environments that include substances served by the venue, punches being thrown is not natural at all.

With fights starting to become more common in public venues, one must start to consider how unsafe the environment to support their favourite teams at watch parties or in the arena is becoming.


If fans want to see what an environment looks like where teams refuse to host watch parties outside of the arena, look to the Vancouver Canucks after their fans rioted in 1994 and 2011 after Stanley Cup Finals losses.

Not everyone can afford tickets in the arenas nowadays, it is especially more unaffordable come playoff time for the regular working individual. These watch parties outside the arena are a great way for fans to connect and support each other and the sport they love, even if they aren't cheering for the same team.

There is many hopes that fans can remain civil enough and set aside their differences to enjoy a hockey game together as Canadians intended it to be done.
