Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl has discussed going back to his native Germany for specialized treatment from a world-renowned doctor to treat the injury that is keeping him out for the rest of the regular season.
The Edmonton Oilers have announced that star forward Leon Draisaitl is going to miss the rest of the regular season with a lower body injury.
Draisaitl has since traveled to his native Germany for medical assistance from Dr. Müller-Wohlfahrt, a world-renowned physician that is thankfully right in his own back yard.
Right now, based on what Draisaitl has said about his injury, he is at least still "a few weeks" away from returning.
It will definitely take a few weeks. I hope we go far enough so I can help the team again. - Leon Draisaitl
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are set to begin on April 18, which is now a little less than a month away. If Draisaitl is forced to miss any amount of time during the playoffs, the chances of the Oilers making a third straight trip to the Stanley Cup Final could be put in serious danger.
Leon Draisaitl Isn't The Only Start To Seek Treatment In Germany For An Injury
Even though Draisaitl is a native German, he's not the only NHL star forward to seek medical treatment in the country.
Last year, Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews also traveled overseas to Germany to seek treatment for a nagging injury that clearly hampered him during the season.
Like Draisaitl, Matthews is also unfortunately not able to play in the rest of the regular season after suffering a Grade 3 MCL sprain thanks to being hit by Anaheim Ducks captain Radko Gudas in a dirty fashion.
So far this year with the Oilers, Draisaitl has 97 points (35G, 62A in 65 games.
