This evening, Edmonton Oilers' star Leon Draisaitl spoke to the media for the first time since returning from his unexpected leave of absence.

Last week, Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl announced he would be taking a leave of absence to attend to a family matter at home in Germany.
Draisaitl missed multiple days with the Oilers before returning to the lineup suddenly and without warning on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Today, Draisaitl had the opportunity to speak to the media for the first time and addressed his sudden leave and where things stand now.

During the interview, Draisaitl was asked about the leave of absence and the support he received from the Oilers organization during that time.
Draisaitl thanked the organization for their understanding and admitted that the time away from hockey and with his family gave him a new perspective on life.
It's been great that way. Support from the organization was there and obviously I needed to be with my family. Puts things into perspective how little this really matters when it comes to life.
With Draisaitl back in the fold the Oilers will now be able to focus themselves back on the race to win the Western Conference.
Draisaitl this season has an astonishing 67 points in 49 games played for the Oilers as he continues to prove why he is one of the best talents in the NHL alongside fellow superstar Connor McDavid
Draisaitl will also be able to prepare himself to represent his home country Germany at the upcoming 2026 Olympic Games in Italy.
