Today, Kris Knoblauch was able to give an update on Leon Draisaitl’s recovery that left fans with more questions than answers about his status.
Leon Draisaitl has been out of the Oilers lineup since March 15th after suffering an injury against the Nashville Predators.
Since suffering the injury, Draisaitl went gone home to Germany for rehab and there have not been many updates on his recovery or a potential return.
He was recently seen back in Edmonton but updates on his return to the ice have remained slim.
Today, that changed as Kris Knoblauch laid out the next steps for Draisaitl in preparation for a return.
Kris Knoblauch confirms Leon Draisaitl is returning to the ice
During his latest press conference, Knoblauch confirmed Draisaitl will return to the ice this week while remaining in Edmonton.
Knoblauch expects Draisaitl to remain home during the upcoming road trip and start skating.
With Draisaitl out until the end of the road trip, the earliest he could return is April 13th which would give him just two regular season games to get back up to speed.
If Draisaitl misses those games as well, then he could be in danger of missing Stanley Cup Playoff games as well.
With Zach Hyman already out, the Oilers cannot afford to lose another key player heading into the playoffs.
The uncertainty with Draisaitl has left many fans frustrated as the Oilers will absolutely need him back playing well if they want to be competitive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Hopefully, Draisaitl’s return to practice goes well and he can return soon but if not the Oilers could be in danger of a first round exit.
As more information is shared on Draisaitl’s return to the Oilers’ lineup we will pass along all of the latest news.
