Earlier today, the Edmonton Oilers suffered another frustrating injury setback continuing their difficult luck to begin the season. This week reports indicated that Oilers forward Zach Hyman suffered a bit of a setback in his recovery that would delay his return a week or two. Now, new reports have revealed that young promising forward Matt Savoie has suffered an injury during the team's practice on Friday. Savoie reportedly left practice with what seemed to be a leg injury and did not return to the ice.

Loading from Twitter ...

With Savoie not returning to practice, this of course caused alarm amongst the fan base as they patiently waited for an update from head coach Kris Knoblauch. After practice concluded, the media spoke with head coach Kris Knoblauch and the initial returns from the Oilers bench boss do not seem promising.
Oilers Top Prospect Matt Savoie Being Evaluated After Frustrating Injury
During his post practice press conference Knoblauch was asked for a status update on Savoie. Unfortunately, Knoblauch was not able to give an update confirming that further evaluation was going to be needed on Savoie.

Loading from Twitter ...

The timing of the injury is absolutely heartbreaking for Savoie who just recently tallied the first goal of his NHL career getting himself finally on track and looking good. Hopefully, Savoie and the Oilers will get good news regarding this injury and his absence will be short if at all. With Savoie out, Knoblauch will have to continue to get creative to fill all of the roles missing within the Oilers lineup at this point in the season. As more updates are given on Savoie's status and long-term injury outlook we will pass them along to you.
