Former defenseman and current host of Spittin' Chiclets, Ryan Whitney, absolutely blasted the Oilers online with how horrible their play was in Game 6. The Edmonton Oilers were eliminated after a 5-1 defeat at the Florida Panthers' hands in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night. Florida established a 2-0 lead after the first period. Sam Reinhart scored to put the Panthers on the board with a shot that went glove side on Stuart Skinner. Matthew Tkachuk made it 2-0 on a setup by an odd-man rush off a turnover from the blue line by Bouchard. The game had barely gotten started when former Oiler and current co-host of Spittin' Chiclets, Ryan Whitney, sounded off and absolutely blasted the team for a lack of effort.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

Tensions flared up, but it was not enough to jumpstart life into the Oilers
Tempers flared when Evander Kane was sent to the penalty box for slashing Sergei Bobrovsky. Sam Bennett retaliated and was whistled for roughing, but these tense moments did not get the Oilers going. Florida increased the lead in the second period when Carter Verhaeghe's shot created an open rebound in front. Aleksander Barkov chipped a pass to Reinhart, and he tipped the puck into the net off his skate to make it 3-0. In the third, Reinhart capped his masterful performance. With the Oilers pulling Skinner to have a sixth player on the ice, Reinhart scored twice into the open net to set the lead at 5-0. Vasily Podkolzin scored a late one for Edmonton, but it was not enough. The Panthers survived and won their second consecutive Stanley Cup championship. Skinner made 20 saves on the loss, while Bobrovsky made 28 saves to win.
