Tonight, in a new interview former Blackhawks first-round pick Lukas Reichel admitted that he believed he was being traded to the Edmonton Oilers during the offseason. The 2025 NHL offseason has been historically quiet with virtually no trades being made. Despite the lack of moves, reports have always continued to surface connecting players to new homes even if the moves fail to be completed. One move that was widely speculated and reported to be in the works was a <a href='https://www.hockeylatest.com/nhl-team/edmonton-oilers/edmonton-oilers-eye-former-first-round-pick-from-blackhawks-in-proposed-trade-scenario' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>potential trade involving the Edmonton Oilers acquiring German forward Lukas Reichel.</a> Reichel, 23, was selected in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft and expected to be a big part of the Blackhawks rebuild. However, he has failed to separate himself as a standout player leading to trade rumors that made their way all the way back to the up and coming forward. <h3>Lukas Reichel Opens Up About Dealing With Trade Rumors</h3> During <a href='https://chicago.suntimes.com/blackhawks/2025/09/07/blackhawks-lukas-reichel-nhl-trade-rumors-training-yanick-dube#' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>a recent interview</a>, Reichel flat out admitted he was under the impression he was being traded to the Oilers due to a conversation with some friends. I heard from guys in Germany that I didn't know knew hockey. They come up to me and say, 'You're going to go to Edmonton.' I can't do anything about it. Reichel says he is not active on social media so in the moment he took his friends word and assumed that he was going to be on the move to Edmonton at some point. Ultimately, to this point, no deal was made and Reichel will look to have a bounce back season in Chicago where he will try and separate himself as part of the future alongside Connor Bedard. While a move for Reichel is not entirely out of the picture for the Oilers, they will likely turn to the young group of players they brought in through free agency first instead.
