The Oilers have agreed to a new contract with their key forward, Vasily Podkolzin, on a three-year contract extension, which was reported by insider Chris Johnston. Podkolzin played in all 82 games for the Oilers last season, scoring eight goals and adding a further 16 assists. He had three goals and seven assists in 22 playoff games as the Oilers reached a second consecutive Stanley Cup Final, but once again lost to the Florida Panthers. <h3>Podkolzin was entering the Final Year of his Current Contract</h3> <a href='https://www.hockeylatest.com/nhl-team/edmonton-oilers/nhl-insider-reveals-updated-salaries-it-will-take-to-sign-mcdavid-walman-and-podkolzin' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Podkolzin was set to become a restricted free agent (RFA)</a> next summer. This new contract will keep him in the Alberta capital until the end of the 2028-29 NHL season. A native of Moscow, Russia, Podkolzin was originally drafted with the 10th overall selection of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks and made his NHL debut back in 2021. After three seasons with the Canucks, Podkolzin was then dealt to the Oilers last August for a fourth-round pick in return. In 219 games across four seasons, Podkolzin has scored 26 goals and added 33 assists. The Oilers open up their 2025-2026 season on Oct. 8 with a visit from the Calgary Flames in a reignited Battle of Alberta.
