The Oilers and head coach Kris Knoblauch have agreed to a contract extension that will keep the team's bench boss in Edmonton for several years to come. The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with head coach Kris Knoblauch, which was reported by TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.

Loading from Twitter ...

Knoblauch was previously set to enter the season on an expiring contract, and locking him in before the start of the season will now avoid any unnecessary distractions.

Loading from Twitter ...

The 47-year-old Knoblauch has found plenty of success in Edmonton since taking over for former Oilers bench boss Jay Woodcroft back in November 2023. Knoblauch led the Oilers to a 46-18-5 record over the last 69 games of the 2023-24 season before guiding the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final, where they fell to the Florida Panthers in seven games, and last season was no different. In his first full season as Edmonton's bench boss, Knoblauch and the Oilers finished third in the Pacific Division last year with a solid 48-29-5 record.
Kris Knoblauch has Been to the Finals in His Two NHL Seasons as Coach
Once again, Edmonton met the Panthers in the Finals and fell to Florida yet again for a second straight season. Knoblauch, who previously held head coaching jobs in the Western Hockey League (WHL), the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and the American Hockey League (AHL), owns a combined 94-47-10 regular season record and a 29-19 playoff record over two seasons with the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton is also Knoblauch's first head coaching stint in the NHL, and it's safe to say, he has made the most of his opportunity so far. No details were released as of yet on the exact length of the contract and salary. Update: It's a three-year contract extension.

Loading from Twitter ...
