Edmonton Oilers Shot Down By Top Remaining Free Agent According to Multiple Insiders
Jack Roslovic remains the top free agent in the NHL with the regular season approaching, and insiders have revealed he turned down the Oilers.
The Edmonton Oilers have made some big changes this off-season, and as their pursuit of a third straight Stanley Cup Finals begins, the roster will look very different up front than it was a year ago.
Additions include Matthew Savoie, Ike Howard and Andrew Mangiapane, all of whom replace veterans such as Viktor Arvidsson, Corey Perry and Evander Kane, with the organization hoping the youth around McDavid will be what he needs.
Top free agent shuns the Oilers
However, they had the opportunity to land one of the top free agents available, as insiders Darren Dreger and Pierre LeBrun have now confirmed reports that Jack Roslovic shunned the Oilers after they offered him a deal.
"We believe he had a deal on the table from the Oilers and it didn't interest him."
Neither insider revealed why he made this move, if that reason has even been revealed by the player himself, but after putting up 39 points a year ago with the Carolina Hurricanes, he would have been a fantastic option as the Oilers 3C this season.
If not, Roslovic could have played a role in the Oilers top-six with Zach Hyman out and the youth still not finding their footing, but with hopes of a bigger deal elsewhere, his bet on himself backfired.
Ultimately, Roslovic is still without a deal, so the Oilers could potentially kick tires on the talented forward once again before the regular season arrives, but given a lack of interest elsewhere, it remains a major shock that Roslovic turned down a deal from one of the NHL's best teams.
