The Oilers have locked up Roby Jarventie, who was acquired via trade from the Senators prior to the season, to a one-year, two-way contract.

The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed forward Roby Jarventie to a one-year, two-way contract extension worth an average annual value of $775,000.
Jarventie, a 22-year-old Finnish winger, was acquired by the Oilers last July in a trade with the Ottawa Senators.
A seventh-round pick of the Senators, originally selected 33rd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, Jarventie stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 214 pounds.
Last year, Jarventie played in two games with the Oilers' AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, collecting two assists.
Before that, he spent part of four seasons with the Belleville Senators of the AHL, accumulating 38 goals and 48 assists in 136 games. He also played seven games in the NHL for Ottawa in 2023-24, collecting one assist.

Jarventie has had a hard time staying healthy

The extension is a shock given Jarventie's dismal history of remaining healthy and in form in North America. Injury has come in his way and prevented him from fulfilling the potential that led to him being drafted so highly.
"That last summer trade between the Oilers and Ottawa, with forward Xavier Bourgault going to the Senators and winger Roby Jarventie here, has been a dud. Bourgault has 13 points in 38 games in the AHL in Belleville and hasn't gained any more traction in his new organization than he did in Bakersfield. And Jarventie hasn't played for months with a knee issue. Just two games on the farm, and he might need surgery as well. They are waiting on that decision."

To add to the shock were recent reports from a Finnish paper that he was considering returning home to play for the local club Tappara in Tampere.
Meanwhile, the Oilers will begin Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night in Edmonton at 6 PM MT.
