Edmonton Oilers Sign Dynamic Finnish Defenseman As They Continue To Load Up With Young Talent

Earlier today reports indicated that the Oilers are on the verge of signing Boston University forward Quinn Hutson.

Hutson was expected to be the biggest addition of the day after earlier this year they signed Swedish Hockey League top forward David Tomasek.

Now, the Edmonton Oilers have announced yet another signing as they continue to corner the market on some of the top talent from Europe this time adding Atro Leppanen from Liiga in Finland.

Leppanen has had an interesting path to the NHL after not having much NHL interest in past season and finally popping later than most prospects do.

As mentioned by the Oilers Leppanen, 26, set a Liiga record for points in a season with 63 total while playing for Vaasan Sport.

The signing of Leppanen now bolsters the Edmonton Oilers prospect pool of young talent even more.

What began with a pool mostly held up by the success of Matt Savoie with the Bakersfield Condors has now grown significantly.

In the last few weeks the Oilers have signed 7 players or prospects for next season with 2 more nearly across the finish line according to reports.

The Oilers have been in desperate need of talented players on team friendly contracts to surround Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

All of these signings by the Oilers should yield at least a couple of viable NHLers for the upcoming seasons to take the pressure off of the Oilers core group particularly during the long grind of a regular season.
