The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Damien Carfagna to a two-year entry-level contract that begins in the 2025-26 season.
The 22-year-old blueliner spent the past two seasons at Ohio State University, where he skated in 72 games and recorded nine goals with 25 assists, for a total of 34 points.
His seven goals over a 38-game period in 2024-25 were a team-high among Buckeyes defencemen, while Carfagna's 21 assists and 28 points during that time frame ranked second.
The left-shot defenseman from Wood-Ridge, New Jersey, began his NCAA career at the University of New Hampshire back in the 2022-23 season, making 35 appearances as a freshman and scoring six goals while adding 10 assists, for 16 points.
Carfagna's Buckeyes were just recently eliminated
The Buckeyes were sadly eliminated in the first round of the NCAA championship tournament by Boston University.
The Oilers currently have a 42-26-5 record and hold an eight-point lead over the Vancouver Canucks for the third spot in the Pacific Division with nine games remaining on the schedule.
It's safe to say that they're spot in the NHL playoffs is all but confirmed, but they are still jockeying for position with the Los Angeles Kings in an attempt to get home ice advantage in the first round.
