This afternoon Edmonton Oilers reporter David Staples has suggested a brand new lineup plan to help the Oilers take down the Los Angeles Kings. Over the last several weeks the Edmonton Oilers have been struck with terrible injury luck. The Oilers forward group in particular has been ravaged by injuries with Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Trent Frederic, and Evander Kane all being out at different points. Heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs reports have indicated that the Oilers should be at full health minus the loss of Mattias Ekholm for the first round. With so many players returning to the lineup as the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin Oilers reporter David Staples has suggested three lineup changes to get the team clicking on a cylinders.
Oilers Reporter Suggests Three Bold Lineup Changes To Improve The Team
In a new article for The Edmonton Journal David Staples previewed three major changes he would make to the Oilers lineup. The first change Staples wants implemented is depth defenseman Cam Dineen to be inserted full time into the lineup over Josh Brown. The three moves are: starting smaller, puck-moving d-man Cam Dineen over bigger, hard-hitting d-man Josh Brown. It seems that with the Oilers losing Ekholm for the series Staples believes that the puck movement of Dineen will be a bigger asset than the physicality of Brown. Next up, Staples wants to see some youth injected into the Oilers lineup for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the way of Noah Philip who has been a consistent bottom-six producer for the Oilers this season. Finding a way to get rookie Noah Philp into the line-up over a more veteran player Finally, Staples revealed his plan for the eventual return of injured forwards Trent Frederic and Evander Kane. While it is still currently unknown when Frederic and Kane will return for the Oilers Staples firmly believes that the duo should replace Kasperi Kapanen and Mattias Janmark when healthy. If both Trent Frederic and Evander Kane are well enough to play in Game One against the Kings, sitting veterans Kasperi Kapanen and Mattias Janmark to make way for them. With still a couple of days until the Edmonton Oilers make their 2025 Stanley Cup Playoff debut it will be interesting to see if head coach Kris Knoblauch implements any of Staples' ideas for Game 1.
