Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet is calling out forward Elias Pettersson and believes that he needs to improve himself in one key area. The Canucks have broken for the summer, having failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. There will be much said and written about the year that was for Vancouver, considering the internal strife and injury woes that threw their season miles off course from where both they and the fans expected it would be. During his media availability on locker room cleanout day, head coach Rick Tocchet called out forward Elias Petterson, saying that he needs to improve his summer training. I think he'll tell you this, that his preparation has to get better. There's no secret. If you want to be a great player, you have to prepare, almost an obsessive type of preparation. He has to, we've talked about that, move his feet, shoot the puck, you know, change angles, you know.

Loading from Twitter ...

Pettersson experienced a serious downswing in his production, finishing with only 45 points (15G, 30A) in 64 games. Tocchet continued: I really do think I can bank on him taking this information, going away for four months, and make sure that he has a plan, and the plan has to change. You know, I'm not sure he can train the same way, or, you know, the team. I don't know who he's trained. I do kind of know, but I don't, to be honest, that's got to change. If the Canucks are to return to the postseason next year, they'll need a far better performance out of Pettersson and the entire team as a whole. But considering Pettersson's star status and his hefty contract, he'll need to carry a far bigger portion of the load.
