Edmonton Oilers preparing roster moves with reliable defenceman headed to LTIR
The Oilers are preparing to make several roster moves, as they will place Jake Walman on LTIR retroactive to Nov 20th, with Mattias Janmark returning.
The Edmonton Oilers are preparing for a chaotic couple of weeks of roster moves as injuries continue to dictate their plans.
What NHL insider Bob Stauffer had to say about Jake Walman
On Oilers Now, host Bob Stauffer outlined that top-four blueliner Jake Walman won't be ready to go on the upcoming road trip that starts Saturday in Toronto. With Walman out, expect the club to recall a defenceman from Bakersfield.
Stauffer noted that Bakersfield's top-performing defenceman is injured at the moment, which pushes toward Cam Dineen, the same player who played NHL games in Edmonton last season.
If Dineen can't be brought back up, Riley Stillman is the most experienced option, having played in 163 NHL games.
NHL insider Jason Gregor provided more context on Edmonton's situation. He wrote on X that Mattias Janmark's missed practice was just a maintenance day and that he is expected to play tomorrow.
Why the Oilers' next move could signal that Jake Walman will still be out for quite some time, according to NHL insider Jason Gregor
Gregor also noted that the Oilers will likely move Walman onto long-term injured reserve in the coming days, retroactive to November 20.
That would give the club flexibility to recall both a forward and a defenseman for the road trip, a necessary step with only 12 healthy forwards and six healthy defensemen available.
There's also the possibility that Noah Philp comes off injured reserve, providing an additional option for the Oilers in what's certainly a thinner lineup.
