The Edmonton Oilers have been brutalized by injuries in recent times, and now things keep getting worse as they place a key veteran on LTIR.

Over the past few weeks, the Edmonton Oilers simply can't catch a break, as the likes of Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Stuart Skinner and Trent Frederic have all gone down with injury.
While the team have now got McDavid back on the ice agains tthe St. Louis Blues, they've now also got some more bad news, as veteran John Klingberg has officially been placed on Long Term Injury Reserve by the team.
A mid-season signing, Klingberg has tallied 1 goal and 4 points in 11 games played with the team in 2024/25, and with question marks over Mattias Eklholm's health, this is stretching the Oilers blue line thin.
Not only this, but the team have a total of $42 million worth of players absent from their matchup with the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, and with less than six games to go in the regular season, this is the last thing that they want to be dealing with.
After making the Stanley Cup Finals a year ago, the Oilers have struggled to build momentum heading into the post-season this year, and if they can't be at 100%, they're in danger against a red-hot Los Angeles Kings team.
There's still a few weeks between now and the Stanley Cup Playoffs starting however, and while we don't have a return timeline on Klingberg, if he can somehow make his way back in the next few weeks, it will be a boost that the Oilers desperately need as they look to get anywhere close to 100% health.
