NHL insider Frank Seravalli has revealed that the Oilers are no longer interested in trying to sign goaltender Carter Hart to a contract and will look elsewhere.

The Edmonton Oilers are officially no longer interested in bringing Carter Hart aboard to fix their goaltending problems. This was reported by NHL insider Frank Seravalli.
While the Oilers do have a history of giving players and front office staff second chances, it doesn't appear that Carter Hart will be next up on that list.
Frank Seravalli reported that Edmonton will not be adding Hart into the fold any time soon, which means they will likely fix their issues internally or explore a different goalie avenue.
"I was told that Carter Hart is a non-starter for the Edmonton Oilers," Seravalli said. "Him and the other four former NHL players have been labelled by the NHL as ineligible, and they are going to continue to review the file before determining next steps in the commissioner's office.

"Until they are cleared to play, it's not even a conversation worth having."

Hart Has Not Played Since January 2024

In January 2024, Hart was given an indefinite leave from the Philadelphia Flyers and he didn't return that season. He did not receive a qualifying offer that summer either, making him a UFA for good.
You can see why many thought the Oilers could be interested in adding a goalie like Hart. He's a local product who played minor hockey in the Edmonton region and has had decent success at the NHL level before his leave from the Flyers.
Hart has had a save percentage of at least .905 in each of his last three seasons that he played in the NHL and seems like a much more consistent, reliable performer than either Stuart Skinner or Calvin Pickard.
Based on this latest Seravalli report, it would be safe to assume that nothing is imminent on the Oilers-Hart front, so we will see where GM Stan Bowman goes from here.
