The NHL's free agency frenzy has begun and the Edmonton Oilers have lost yet another key veteran who hit the market. After the Edmonton Oilers re-signed Evan Bouchard to a lucrative free agent deal it was expected that many of the pieces from last season's Oilers roster would find new homes. Earlier today, the Oilers lost both Corey Perry and Connor Brown to new homes on the forward front in free agency. Now, the Oilers defensive unit has also taken a hit as the San Jose Sharks have signed veteran defenseman John Klingberg.

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

Klingberg signed in Edmonton last season hoping to find the fountain of youth after two injury riddled seasons with the Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs. Unfortunately, Klingberg's tenure in Edmonton would be more of the same injury problem as he played just 11 regular season games with the Oilers.

Loading from Twitter ...

Klingberg would eventually return for the Stanley Cup Playoffs and go on to play 19 games on the road to the Stanley Cup Finals. Even though Klingberg's tenure was short with the Oilers, he played a key role in several games particularly in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Oilers and his reliable puck moving on the back end will be missed. The playoff run for Klingberg was enough to secure him a one year deal with the Sharks where he will continue trying to find the fountain of youth while mentoring the Sharks young core group. Klingberg will now likely play in an elevated role on a Sharks team who struggled mightily to move the puck up the ice to their talented forward group last season.
