The Edmonton Oilers have been in search of forward depth in free agency and today one of the top options was stolen away by a conference rival.

The Edmonton Oilers are a team built around their stars and rely heavily on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to be key offensive line drivers.
However, to make a deep playoff run the Oilers will need good support players specifically players who are strong physically and on the forecheck.
One of the players that the Oilers had been linked to to was Brett Leason a former second-round pick of the Washington Capitals who brings immense size and physicality.
There was reportedly serious interest between the two sides at different points of the offseason.
Unfortunately, Leason has now signed with a conference rival instead for the 2025-26 season.

Brett Leason Signs With The Minnesota Wild

Last night, the Minnesota Wild made the announcement that they had signed Leason to a PTO heading into training camp.
Last season, Leason played 62 games in Anaheim and had 17 points while playing in a depth role for the team.
This will undoubtedly sting for Stan Bowman and the Oilers front office but luckily other good options remain on the free agent market.
Now Bowman and the Oilers could likely turn their attention to a reunion with Klim Kostin in the coming days.
As more information is provided on the Edmonton Oilers signings and training camp invites we will pass along all of the latest news.
