Tonight, a new report has connected the Edmonton Oilers to yet another big name on the trade market this time to fix their goaltending problems.
The Edmonton Oilers endured an incredibly disappointing season in 2025-26 exiting the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the first round with a loss to the Anaheim Ducks.
The shocking let down for the Oilers led to changes behind the bench with head coach Kris Knoblauch being relieved of his duties.
Now, a new report has indicated the Oilers could look to make another big move in net to finally try and stabilize their goaltending position by trading for Jacob Markstrom.
Edmonton Oilers linked to New Jersey Devils goalie Jacob Markstrom
Recent reports have confirmed that the New Jersey Devils are exploring the idea of moving on from starting goalie Jacob Markstrom after missing the playoffs themselves.
Not often does a Vezina Trophy finalist come on the trade market and reporters have taken notice and linked the goalie needy Oilers to Markstrom.
Markstrom, 36, would be a win now move for the Oilers and only a short term fix for the position but would bring immediate stability to the position and end any discussion over who the team's starter is.
It remains unclear whether or not GM Stan Bowman would take the risk on adding a goalie that far along in his career and with his best days behind him.
However, if the Oilers are determined to try a new strategy in net beyond current starter Tristan Jarry then Markstrom is likely the best player they could hope to acquire.
As the situation continues to play out we will pass along all of the latest details on the Oilers offseason plans and Markstrom's potential new home.
