As NHL Free Agency rolls along, the Edmonton Oilers have been linked to a former Stanley Cup champion who could help fix the Oilers' depth problems.

Throughout free agency the Edmonton Oilers have lost several key pieces up front including Corey Perry who signed in Los Angeles and Jeff Skinner who signed with the San Jose Sharks.
Heading into the offseason the Oilers depth up front beyond Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent Hopkins was incredibly suspect.
With the loss of Perry and Skinner that as well as the trade sending away Viktor Arvidsson those depth problems have become a clear problem for Edmonton.
When free agency first opened GM Stan Bowman took a run at several forwards but struck out mostly due to a lack of salary cap space.
Now, with free agency winding down, Bowman could go looking in the bargain bin for a couple of undervalued players that could help the Oilers depth problems.
One of those players that has been linked to the Oilers is former Stanley Cup Champion Robby Fabbri.

In a new article from The Hockey Writers NHL analyst Rupert McDonald took a look at a few key names still on the free agent market that the Oilers could target.
The most intriguing for the Oilers current needs was former St. Louis Blue and Anaheim Duck Robby Fabbri.
Fabbri has gone through some ups and downs since taking home the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues but still shows potential to be a good scoring forward.
Robby Fabbri has solid offensive abilities and could be signed on the cheap. The 29-year-old's career has been derailed by some tough injuries, but he still has the ability to produce solid secondary numbers. He's just one season removed from an 18-goal, 32-point campaign in 68 games with the Detroit Red Wings.

Fabbri would be able to play multiple positions and the Oilers could easily create the salary cap space needed to bring him in on a one-year deal.
He also brings versatility, as he can play both down the middle and on the wing. AFP Analytics projects him to sign for less than $1 million, meaning the Oilers would only need to free up roughly $700,000 to make it work.

Fabbri in this case could be a high quality bet on a player coming off a bad season looking to rebound in a better situation without much risk.
The Oilers made a similar move last season signing John Klingberg who became a key contributor on the back end in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
