Edmonton Oilers Land Norris Trophy Winner Erik Karlsson In Wild New Mock Trade Involving Darnell Nurse

The Edmonton Oilers have been busy this summer overhauling their roster particularly changing their forward group.

The Oilers also made a change in goal by hiring a new goaltending coach to lead Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

After these moves, the Edmonton Oilers' defensive unit has largely stayed the same despite major question marks about the groups ability to play well in big games.

Now, a new mock trade has been put together by Oilers Nation that would allow the Oilers to land Norris Trophy Winner Erik Karlsson.

During a discussion on their latest podcast episode Oilers Nation suggested the following wild trade between the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins.

To acquire Karlsson the Oilers would need to clear serious salary cap space which would mean trading Nurse and potentially Janmark as well.

Taking on Jarry's contract from Pittsburgh would also drive the price down for Karlsson and make it so that the Oilers could land him and keep their top prospects.

After winning the Norris Trophy in 2023 and amassing over 100 points Karlsson was shipped to Pittsburgh and to this point the fit just has not worked out well.

At 35 years old taking in Erik Karlsson would be a huge risk for the Oilers but could provide a major upside especially over the play of Darnell Nurse who historically has struggled in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

This move while unlikely would be the type of risk that many fans are hoping to see Stan Bowman and the front office take to truly push themselves closer to getting over their Stanley Cup Finals struggles.
