Former Flames player and current Oiler Andrew Mangiapane revealed a special, emotional moment when he and his wife, Claudia, welcomed a baby named AJ. The Edmonton Oilers have themselves a new fan, and he's only a few days old. Earlier in the month, forward Andrew Mangiapane and his wife, Claudia, had their first child, a baby boy, AJ. One week of loving you AJ, Claudia wrote on Instagram. Arriving August 7 at 7 lbs 0 oz, just 72 hours after getting back to Alberta. The best surprise!

Loading from Twitter ...

Loading from Twitter ...

The couple had their first baby, and this is also a new start for Andrew Mangiapane, who signed on as a free agent over the summer. Though new to Edmonton's team, Mangiapane's not new to the faithful of the Oilers. The 28-year-old right winger skated seven years against Edmonton while a member of the Calgary Flames, so dressing on the other side of one of the league's longest rivalries will be truly a spectacle. His bodychecking, sniping, and competitive nature would otherwise infuriate Edmonton, but he'll be in an Edmonton jersey now, angering Calgary instead. It's gonna be fun to participate in the Battle of Alberta again, Mangiapane said in an introductory media availability last month. I think this was just a great fit for me. Edmonton has a great team, so I just want to come in and play my game and help the team in any way possible to win. I'm excited to be here, excited to be an Oiler, and excited to get things going.
Mangiapane's Production Took a dip Last Season in Washington
He came to the Oilers after playing last season with Washington. A one-year stop there included 81 games, and he contributed 14 goals and 28 points. He'll be bringing veteran smarts and two-way talent to an Edmonton team hoping to capture the Stanley Cup, and he'll be cheered on by his growing family. Last year was a little bit of a down year for me, but I think I can get right back to where I've been and what I can do, Mangiapane said. And if all goes according to plan, baby AJ may be soaking up his first Stanley Cup parade before he even celebrates his first birthday.
