The 14-year NHL veteran retired in March after playing the 2024-25 season with the Chicago Blackhawks. A sixth-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2007, Maroon spent three years in the AHL before debuting with the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 25, 2011. Nicknamed The Big Rig due to his stature and physical style of play, Maroon developed a fan base and became a favorite while playing for the Edmonton Oilers (2016-2018) prior to short stints in New Jersey and then a career-changing transaction to his hometown Blues. In 2019, he assisted St. Louis in winning their first Stanley Cup. That summer, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, who had previously coached Maroon to a Robertson Cup championship in the NAHL, brought him to Tampa Bay. The duo produced consecutive Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021, which made Maroon the first player since the early 1980s to claim three straight championships. After making more stops throughout the league, Maroon finished his playing career in Chicago. Now, he flips the page to coaching, adding championship pedigree and a winning mentality to Muskegon's bench.
