Edmonton Oilers connected to new starting goaltender by respected NHL analyst

The Edmonton Oilers continue to dissect the disappointing season that occurred in 2025-26 with many blaming subpar goaltending for the Oilers' lack of success.

The duo of Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram did not live up to expectation leaving Oilers fans once again begging for change.

As a result, many analysts and insiders expect yet another move in the goaltending carousel for the Edmonton Oilers this summer.

Today, NHL analyst Jeff Marek has linked the Oilers to Sabres starter Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

In a new report on Daily Faceoff Live, Marek suggested that a deal between the Oilers and Sabres would make a lot of sense.

Luukkonen got his first taste of playoff action this year with the Sabres and faired pretty well in a goalie tandem with Alex Lyon.

At just 27 years old Luukkonen spent his fourth season in Buffalo in the tandem with Lyon enjoying the best success of his career finishing the year with a 2.52 goals against average and a 0.910 save percentage.

While Luukkonen is not a bonafide starter he could be the 1A in a goalie tandem and is still young and developing for the goaltender position.

If Buffalo is willing to part with Luukkonen taking the bet on his talent and upside could be worth the risk for the Oilers.
