This is Brian Lawton on Oilers Now, floating a Stan Bowman blockbuster trade, and Edmonton Oilers fans are bracing for impact.

The key thing is the "smoke" is not coming from nowhere. Edmonton already made a legit deadline-style swing.
On Monday, the Oilers landed defenceman Connor Murphy from Chicago. The price was a 2028 second-round pick, with salary retained.
That is not a depth tweak. That is a roster message.
Murphy is a right-shot who can chew hard minutes and calm the penalty kill. Edmonton has chased that exact profile for years.
"Edmonton working on blockbuster trade."
The bigger question is what Bowman does with the rest of the cap puzzle before Friday's trade deadline.
Connor McDavid is sitting at 35-68-103, and Leon Draisaitl is at 31-54-85. The window is screaming right now.

Stan Bowman has the Edmonton Oilers in win-now mode

Oilers fans feel it too, that mix of "finally" and "please do not botch the last piece."
Murphy helps the blue line, but it does not fix the whole five-man game by itself. The Oilers still bleed off the rush when their spacing gets lazy.
That is why the "blockbuster" idea makes sense as a concept, even if the names are still guesses. A real top-six forward, or a true two-way third-line driver, changes your matchups.
Watch for a deal that ships out a mid-tier cap hit to make the math work. Retention can only carry you so far.
If Bowman lands one more impact piece, Kris Knoblauch can finally roll lines without sheltering anybody.
Then it becomes simple: defend like adults, let McDavid and Draisaitl cook on the man advantage, and see who can handle April.
