Edmonton Oilers trade talks intensify for Connor Murphy, official announcement expected shortly

Elliotte Friedman revealed a Connor Murphy to Edmonton trade, and it has just become official.

Murphy is the exact "hard minutes" right shot the Oilers keep chasing on the blue line.

He is 32, drafted in 2011, Round 1, by the Phoenix Coyotes.

This season he has 4-9-13 in 60 games for Chicago, with most of his value living on the kill and after whistles.

Edmonton sits at 29-24-8 right now, and that record screams "add one more stopper, fast."

Friedman believes talks could be in the final stages with an announcement expected shortly.

Chicago is 23-28-9, and this is the part of the cycle where they can sell experience for futures.

Murphy's cap hit is $4.4 million and his deal expires after 2025-26, so he's a rental with teeth.

Oilers fans are tired of "almost" defense every April, and you can feel the impatience building.

The hockey fit is simple, he plugs into a top-four lane, takes PK starts, and lets Edmonton's puck movers breathe.
