NHL insider John Shannon revealed the exact injury that Zach Hyman is suffering from that will require surgery, and he unfortunately has a broken wrist.
The Edmonton Oilers will have to continue their playoff drive without one of their key players. Zach Hyman will have surgery on Wednesday and is out for the playoffs after suffering an upper-body injury in Tuesday's Game 4 win over the Dallas Stars.
Now, NHL insider John Shannon revealed the exact issue that Hyman is suffering from. It appears that the reason he will require surgery is that he has a broken wrist.
Hyman left the game midway through the first period of Edmonton's 4-1 victory over Dallas that gave the team a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
This occurred after he took a controversial hit from Stars winger Mason Marchment, who was coming out of the defensive zone.
Hyman dropped his stick, clearly favouring his right arm, and made a beeline for the bench before heading down the tunnel to Edmonton's locker room with the team's medical staff.
Hyman has scored five goals and added six assists in 15 playoff games after scoring 27 goals and 17 assists in 73 regular-season games. The Toronto native had a career-high 54 goals last season.
Connor Brown will be out again and miss Game 5
Head coach Kris Knoblauch also confirmed Wednesday that Connor Brown will remain out for Game 5, as the forward is still working his way back from an injury he suffered in Game 3.
