After the Oilers gave up seven goals in a loss to the Capitals, Darnell Nurse commented afterwards that it's tough to win games when you give up so many goals.

The Edmonton Oilers found silver linings Wednesday night despite a 7-4 loss to the Washington Capitals, their third defeat in four games.

What Kris Knoblauch feels improved in last night's game

Head coach Kris Knoblauch pointed out improved contributions from the bottom of the lineup and the group's refusal to fold while trailing multiple times. Edmonton chipped away at deficits throughout the night, but couldn't complete a comeback.
Darnell Nurse scored twice in the opening period, slicing Washington's lead to 2-1 and later 3-2.
After Ryan Leonard restored momentum for the Capitals with his second of the night in the second period, David Tomasek responded early in the third to make it 4-3.
Leon Draisaitl answered an Anthony Beauvillier goal to pull Edmonton within 5-4, but two empty-netters put the result out of reach.

Why Darnell Nurse put pressure on Stuart Skinner and his fellow teammates

The loss comes on the heels of a 5-1 defeat in Buffalo on Monday and extends a frustrating stretch on a seven-game road trip. Darnell Nurse didn't mince words on the team's goaltending and defence after giving up a lot of goals recently.
"Tough to win games when you're letting in 5."

Edmonton, off back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances, now sits outside the playoff picture in the Western Conference.
The Oilers remain five points behind the Anaheim Ducks for first place in the Pacific Division, though Anaheim has played two fewer games.
The Edmonton Oilers continue their road swing Thursday in Tampa Bay before closing the trip Saturday in a Stanley Cup Final rematch against the Florida Panthers.
The Oilers' record remains mired in mediocrity, but the team's resilience and scoring depth showed signs of progress. Turning those positives into wins will determine whether this road trip becomes a turning point-or another missed opportunity.
