Connor McDavid heading into the 2025-26 season is on the verge of tying Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux in the history books. The 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs came to a disappointing end for the Edmonton Oilers losing once again to the Florida Panthers. Despite having a difficult time getting over the hump in the Stanley Cup Playoffs Connor McDavid has continued his dominance as widely considered the best player in the NHL. McDavid is coming off of a relatively disappointing season for his standards only playing 67 games and amassing 100 points his lowest total since 2019-20. Even factoring in McDavid's low point totals last season compared to expectation McDavid is still in many people's eyes the best player in the league and the favorite to recapture the Hart Trophy next season.

Loading from Twitter ...

In addition, McDavid is on the verge of joining an exclusive club headlined by Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.
Connor McDavid On The Verge Of Once Again Putting His Name In The Record Books
According to a post on X put out by the NHL, McDavid could join Gretzky and Lemieux as the only players in NHL history to have 9 100 point seasons in their career. If McDavid were to accomplish this goal it would be his 6th straight such season and put him on a path to potentially pass Lemieux and Gretzky by the end of his career.

Loading from Twitter ...

After being drafted by the Edmonton Oilers, the expectations for McDavid were lofty and he has met and likely exceeded every milestone to this point in his career that could be asked of him. Now, McDavid like he has done before has a chance at history once again but ultimately his career will be defined by what happens when the Stanley Cup Playoffs begin in the spring of 2026.
