Connor McDavid and Kris Knoblauch just got a sharper Edmonton crease question than a simple Tristan Jarry decision.
Bob Stauffer's latest read points to the Oilers keeping Jarry for 2026-27, letting Connor Ingram walk, and chasing a prospect goaltender by trade.
That is not housekeeping.
That is roster architecture around McDavid, because Edmonton's next crease move can't feel temporary if the captain is judging the club's direction.
Jarry would become the veteran hold, not the disposable piece.
Ingram, even with the door left open, sounds more like the moving part than the plan.
Edmonton's goalie plan now points east
Stauffer narrowed the target profile: one Eastern club with 4 good goaltenders in its system.
The Oilers are not just looking for another backup. They appear to be hunting a controllable goalie who can grow behind Jarry while Knoblauch keeps the room stable.
Stauffer frames the Eastern depth angle, and lets the market clue hang there without naming the club.
"There's one club in the East that's got four pretty good goaltenders in their system right now. So we'll see what happens here carrying forward."

Edmonton may prefer one known NHL goalie plus one younger swing, instead of another full reset.
David Staples flagging the comments adds weight, because this is the type of Edmonton radio breadcrumb that usually lands before the market catches up.
Stan Bowman's job is not just to find saves. It is to reduce uncertainty around McDavid before next season's pressure starts early.
That is the real consequence here.
If Edmonton keeps Jarry and trades for a prospect goalie, Ingram becomes the casualty of a larger pivot, not just a name walking away.
