Connor McDavid ripped the Edmonton Oilers after back to back home losses, and you could feel the frustration through the screen.

He didn't hide behind clichés. He owned it, then demanded more from everyone else.
"The sense of urgency in our group has to go up. It starts with me," McDavid said, adding that his last two games "haven't been my best."

Then he went straight for the throat of the real problem.
"Our puck play has been bad. Really, really bad," McDavid said. "Not really connecting on passes it looks slow and clunky."

That's a captain talking like a guy who's tired of wasting nights.
Edmonton just dropped a 2-1 game to New Jersey, then got punched in the mouth 6-2 by Pittsburgh.
That's the kind of mini skid that makes a contender look fragile.
Here's the clip, if you missed it.
McDavid's season line is still video game stuff at 30-55-85.
But even he knows the Oilers can't live off one rush chance and a power play look.
The tape lately screams one thing, clean exits are turning into panicked chips.
The blue line is making the safe play, and the forwards are reaching instead of supporting.

Connor McDavid wants the Edmonton Oilers to wake up

Oilers fans have that familiar tight feeling right now, because you can see the talent, but the details keep slipping.
When McDavid says "sloppy" and "bouncing," he's calling out execution, not effort.
That matters, because execution is fixable fast.
The Oilers are 25-19-8, and the Pacific is not waiting for anyone to find their game.
If the puck play cleans up, the top-six will tilt the ice again, and the man advantage stops feeling forced.
If it doesn't, this turns into finger pointing, and that is when seasons go sideways.
Monday's next game suddenly feels like a must-win, even in January.
