Sad update concerning Patrik Laine on the Player Assistance Program

We just learned a sad update regarding Patrik Laine, who joined the Player Assistance Program in January.

It was reported that Laine has no intention of coming back to play with the Columbus Bue Jackets this season.

Blue Jackets head coach John Davidson confirms that Laine will miss the rest of the season.

In a recent interview with Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, Davidson revealed that Laine's season is over.

"John Davidson told Aaron Portzline of The Athletic that «[Patrik Laine] won't be back this season."

Laine has dealt with a lot on injuries in his career, and it continued this season.

Four games into the start of the year, Laine got injured and missed three weeks. Then, in December, he fractured his clavicle. What was supposed to be a six-weeks absence turned into an indefinite leave, as he joined the Player Assistance Program in January. As you know, he hasn't returned to play.

"The National Hockey League Players' Association and National Hockey League announced today that forward Patrik Laine of the Columbus Blue Jackets will be unavailable to his Club for an indefinite period while he receives care from the Player Assistance Program of the NHLPA and NHL."

He's been limited to 18 games this year. In fact, the last time he played a full 82-game season, it was in 2018-19 with the Winnipeg Jets. Since then, he played only 243 games and missed almost half of the games he could've been a part of if he had been healthy.

Despite his health struggles, Laine still has great numbers, with 204 goals and 184 assists in 480 career games with the Jets and the Blue Jackets.

Do you think Laine will come back at the start of the next season?
