Alex Tuch is headed to free agency July 1, and David Pagnotta's latest report contains a detail most are overlooking.
Per Pagnotta on The Fourth Period, the Edmonton Oilers could enter the Tuch sweepstakes - but only if they can move some things around first.
He also flagged that potential suitors may be looking at a shorter-term deal.
Re Alex Tuch: "Maybe some other teams enter the mix that are a little closer to winning maybe on a shorter term deal, who knows, maybe Edmonton if they can move some things around."

That qualifier is the part worth sitting with. Tuch's camp has been seeking north of $10.5 million annually, a number benchmarked against Adrian Kempe's eight-year, $85 million extension with the Los Angeles Kings.
Buffalo Sabres GM Jarmo Kekalainen has reportedly held firm around $9 million, a gap Pagnotta himself called too wide to close quietly.
Elliotte Friedman confirmed on the 32 Thoughts podcast that there was no movement at the combine and that "deadlines spur action."
Darren Dreger of TSN said bluntly that Tuch is "likely going to free agency."
The playoff reality that changed the conversation
Tuch posted zero points in seven games against the Montreal Canadiens in the first round.
For a player seeking $10.5 million on a long-term deal, that postseason silence carries real weight with evaluating teams.
The shorter-term framing Pagnotta introduced is the tell. If contenders closer to winning want Tuch on a bridge arrangement rather than a long-term commitment, his camp's leverage just changed shape.
Where Edmonton actually stands
The Edmonton Oilers project roughly $14 to $17 million in cap space for 2026-27, but Pagnotta's "move some things around" caveat signals they aren't simply plug-and-play.
Stan Bowman still has goaltending, depth defense, and forward priorities to address before he can pivot to a wing like Tuch.
Tuch would be a premium addition to any contender, but Edmonton getting involved likely requires a roster move before any offer goes out.
The question now is whether Tuch's camp accepts a shorter deal to land with a genuine Cup contender - or holds out for the long-term money the Buffalo Sabres wouldn't pay.
