NHL Insider Links Guentzel To Edmonton Oilers
Elliotte Friedman reported on 32 thoughts today that the Oilers have their eyes set on Jake Guentzel as their trade deadline prize. Based on the way he said it, it sounds like the team is serious about acquiring him as well. He could be the team's number one priority right now.
Oilers Willing To Trade Top Defenseman Prospect?
The Oilers have limited trade assets they could send back, especially since they are looking to make a deep playoff run. They are unlikely to want to trade away any roster players, unless it would be to clear up cap space. However, Friedman also hinted at what could be in the return for Pittsburgh.
Guentzel currently has 50 points including 22 goals in 47 games for the Penguins this year. The Pens would certainly have a hard time replacing that production this year if they are still serious about making the playoffs, but if they are willing to take a step back, trading him would make the most sense. The 29-year-old forward could bring the team a haul considering what other players have gone for so far this year.
