Tom Wilson got ejected for an Olympic hockey fight, and Team Canada just got the answer it needed.
The scrap looked like the kind of moment that can snowball into a suspension, fast.
Under IIHF rules, fighting brings a major and a game misconduct, so everyone immediately watched for the next ruling.
Elliotte Friedman even flagged that a fighting major is not automatically a one game suspension in the 2025-26 book.
That left Canada in limbo, because a quarterfinal without Wilson changes how you roll your top-nine.
Now the update is clean and simple. There will be no further discipline for Tom Wilson or Pierre Crinon.
That means Crinon is cleared for France’s qualifying round, and Wilson is cleared for Canada’s quarterfinal.
Tom Wilson keeps his spot for Team Canada
Canadian fans can finally unclench, because this could have turned into a classic “rules got us” headline.
Wilson still paid the in-game price, and Canada still had to finish that night without him.
But the bigger win is roster stability, because coaches hate re-wiring roles this deep into a short tournament.
If Wilson stays on his lane, he gives Canada a straight-line forecheck, net-front annoyance, and a little honest fear factor.
If he crosses it again, the next panel might not be so forgiving, especially in elimination games.
For France, getting Crinon back matters too, because one blue-line body can swing a one-and-done qualifier.
For Canada, the message is clear: you got your guy back, now make it count before the bracket bites back.
