Kevin Fiala’s Olympic injury update rocked Switzerland, so they turned Sunday’s win over Czechia into something bigger.

Switzerland beat Czechia 4-3 in overtime at Milano Cortina 2026, and the emotion was written all over their bench.
Roman Josi led from the back end with 1-1-2, controlling the pace every time he touched the puck.
Timo Meier attacked off the rush and finished with 1-1-2, driving the top-six when the game tightened.
They did not just win a game, they responded.
In the postgame clip, Meier, Josi and head coach Patrick Fischer dedicate the win directly to Fiala.
That moment carried more weight after the latest update on his status.
Fischer confirmed Fiala underwent surgery following the collision earlier in the tournament and will miss the rest of the Olympics.

Kevin Fiala’s absence reshapes Team Switzerland

Swiss fans feel proud of the push, but there is real heartbreak because Fiala is one of their engines.
Earlier in the week, Fischer said the hope was that Fiala would be released from hospital and return to the athletes village the next day.
Even from his hospital bed, Fiala sent a video message to the group, and teammates have rallied around it.
That kind of gesture can tighten a room fast in a short tournament.
Without him, Switzerland has simplified its attack, leaning on Josi to break pucks out clean and letting Meier attack inside lanes.
The margins get thinner now.
Switzerland sits at 1-1-1-0 in the group stage, still alive, but the path just got heavier.
For Fiala, who entered the Olympic break with 18-22-40 for the Los Angeles Kings, this is a brutal pause.
For Switzerland, the next game is no longer just about points, it is about proving they can keep carrying him with them.
