Jon Cooper praises Connor McDavid for early dominance at the 2026 Olympic Games

Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, who coaches Canada in the Olympics, gushed with praise over Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid's performance.
It's been two games and two wins for Team Canada in the Winter Olympics, winning by a combined 10-1 score over Finland and Switzerland.
One of the first choices for the Canada roster was Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid, along with Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon, and defenseman Cale Makar, among others.
They're coached by Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, who also coaches forward Brandon Hagel and would have coached Anthony Cirelli had he not gotten hurt.
Cooper gushed with praise over the performance of McDavid so far in the Olympics.
That kid is so talented and is just a phenomenal kid. We talked about it after 4 Nations, and he didn’t think he was at his best in that tournament. I thought he was outstanding for us. Connor McDavid Has Gone To Two Straight Stanley Cup Finals
McDavid, the captain of the Oilers, has led them to two straight Stanley Cup Final appearances, but they lost to the Florida Panthers, who have McDavid's Team Canada teammates Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett.
So far this year in an Oilers sweater, where he recently signed a two-year extension, he has 96 points (34G, 62A).
If McDavid continues at his best, there's no reason to think why the Oilers wouldn't be the favourite to once again come out of the Western Conference.
