After today’s game against Switzerland, Canada head coach Jon Cooper provided a huge update on Josh Morrissey’s status for the rest of the Olympics.
The opening game of the Olympics carried heartbreak for Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey who was forced to leave Canada’s game due to injury.
After the game, reports had indicated that Morrissey would miss at least one game and be re-evaluated later in the tournament.
After today’s contest against Switzerland, Team Canada head coach Jon Cooper addressed Morrissey’s injury status and gave a disappointing update.
Jon Cooper provides an unfortunate update on Josh Morrissey’s injury
During his post game press conference, Cooper confirmed that Morrissey will miss at least one more game for Canada but did provide a silver lining that he could still return in later games.
You will not see him next game. (Sunday vs France). But by no means is he out for the tournament.
While this is a frustrating update it is one that was expected after Cooper’s initial thoughts when Morrissey was injured.
Looking at Morrissey’s long-term health the fact that he has not been ruled out of the entire Olympics is a positive sign.
Hopefully, with one more game off Morrissey can return to the Canadian lineup for the medal rounds.
Either way, as of now it does not sound like Morrissey is in danger of missing games with the Jets after the Olympic break.
As more information is provided on Morrissey’s health and potential return to the Olympics we will pass along the latest details.
