RUMOUR: Details Behind Aborted Trade for Jack Eichel Go Public

The Jack Eichel trade saga in 2021 remains one of the most memorable the NHL has ever seen. Though he'd eventually go to the Vegas Golden Knights (where he just won his first Stanley Cup), a rumour is circulating online that he was close to being dealt to the Ottawa Senators.

Now, according to Kevin Francis, we have details for what the likely asking price would've been for Pierre Dorion to get the deal done.

Jake Sanderson is very much a core piece of the Senators going forward, and is ostensibly considered an untouchable in trades by fans and management. Additionally, while the Sens are planning to compete in the near future, Sanderson is a much younger piece than Eichel, and is earmarked as a future top-pairing D. The Sens as a whole remain a very young team on the upswing.

While Eichel — who the Golden Knights traded Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs and two high draft picks to acquire in November 2021 — would've looked amazing alongside the likes of Tim Stützle and Brady Tkachuk, it would've likely come at a prohibitive cost for Dorion and the Sens.
