Pierre-Luc Dubois in Montreal: a huge statement that shows just how risky it can be

The Canadiens and Kings are the favorites to lure Dubois, although Montreal is his preferred choice. In fact, Dubois wanted to come to Montreal when he was traded by the Blue Jackets.

Monday night was Tony Marinaro's podcast, and his guest was Andrew Paterson. Two very articulate men with good knowledge and sources in the hockey world. They spent an hour talking about Dubois in Montreal.

According to Paterson, the forward plays about 20% excellent games, 50% good games and 30% bad games. It's a statement that says a lot about the risk of signing him long-term, when he has more bad games than excellent ones.

What's more, if Dubois demands a higher salary than Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, he'll not only have to produce more, he'll also have to work his ass off every night and every time he's on the ice, which is far from the case.

Both men agree that eight years is too long and $8 million a year is too much money. Yet these are Dubois' expectations.

The factor in his favor is that he wants to play in Montreal, live here, wear the Canadiens jersey. His career could change for the better the moment he wears that jersey. However, after seven seasons in the NHL, we're starting to get a pretty clear picture of the player, and he's not consistent.
