One of the urgent files for the Montreal Canadiens at the moment is that of the prospect Jayden Struble.

The 21-year-old defenseman, who was a second-round pick in 2019, has just finished his university training period. Since it's been four years since his draft, Kent Hughes and the Tricolore must make an important decision with him.
Either the club and Struble manage to agree on a first professional contract, or the CH will have to trade the rights of the defenseman to another team, not to lose him for nothing on the free agent market.
Given the high concentration of left-handed defensemen in the Montreal organization, many wonder if Struble will decide to forego signing a first contract with the Habs in order to get a real opportunity to make his mark elsewhere.
However, we have just learned a new and interesting development regarding a potential signing.
According to information obtained by journalist Mathias Brunet of La Presse, the Tricolore has an idea of Struble's choice.
"The Habs expect to see him join the organization soon despite the abundance of left-handed defensemen in Montreal and in the prospect pool." - Mathias Brunet

So this is great news for depth in the Habs organization.
This would mean that technically, he would be willing to make a name for himself with the CH's club-school, even if he could get a chance elsewhere that would be closer to the NHL, much like Jordan Harris last year.
Moreover, in connection with a potential signing, Mitch Melnick mentioned today on TSN 690 that a signing with the American defenseman would be imminent, and that it could be announced very soon.
This will be something to follow in the next few hours or days.
In any case, even if Struble wanted to make the jump to the big league immediately, for the sake of his long-term development, a move to the AHL would be the best scenario for him.
