Kent Hughes revealed the real reason Jonathan Drouin wasn't traded and it's disappointing

The trade deadline has passed and the Montreal Canadiens can now focus on the end of the season.

Among the players that were most likely to be traded today to the CH, there was certainly Jonathan Drouin, who is currently playing the last year of his contract at $5.5M per season.

In connection with the fact that the Quebecer is still part of the Tricolore's roster, Kent Hughes revealed the reason why he was not traded.

According to the DG, Drouin's high salary caused a real problem to the outcome of a transaction.

Obviously, we can make the deduction with Hughes' words, that the real reason is rather that the too high salary of the 27 years old forward, compared to his performances, did not justify that he could be a valid acquisition by a buying team that was looking to equip itself for the playoffs.

It's a shame for the Habs, but especially for Drouin, who could have benefited from a change of scenery for his personal well-being. He will have to spend the last year of his contract in Montreal.
