Since his arrival as general manager of the Habs, there has been very little, if any, reason to fault the work of Kent Hughes. He has been able to get the moon for some players, including Ben Chiarot.

Hughes didn't stop there, he was able to get his hands on an extra first round pick by acquiring Sean Monahan, shortly after confirming that Carey Price would not play all season. However, the GM was unable to maximize this deal due to a major mistake.
As reported by Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette, Hughes and the entire CH management team allowed Sean Monahan to play with a broken foot. The forward was walking around with a protective boot off the ice and playing anyway.
Hockey players are warriors and will do anything to play, even if they are injured. This decision to let him play led to his current injury, which prevented the team from trading him for a possible first round pick before the trade deadline.
"Allowing him to continue playing with a broken foot will have drastically decreased his value at the trade deadline."

Since then, Hughes has made it a priority not to let injured players play and that's been to his advantage. So he will have learned from his mistake and that is very encouraging for the future.
