Former Canadiens player calls out the NHL for the Habs game against the Lightning

It's done. The Habs did what any bottom team can do when playing without pressure at the end of the season: win against a top team.

You have to admit that Samuel Montembeault was smokin' in front of the cage for the Tricolore, but in general, all the players did their part.

The game seemed to end perfectly as Josh Anderson was about to score the insurance goal in an empty net. Unfortunately, he was held up pretty clearly by Mikhail Sergachev and fell, injuring his right ankle in the process.

The officials did not call a penalty on the play, even though one of the two was directly in front of the scene and saw it all. There is no excuse for not calling this infraction and Chris Nilan was not shy about saying so.

"The NHL is embarrassing. The clown of an official who didn't call a penalty on Anderson's play in the empty net is just ridiculous. It's a joke, joke, joke . Hee Haw. -Chris Nilan"

Whether there are only seconds left in the game or several minutes, it is imperative that referees be consistent in their calls, which is clearly not the case. On Tuesday night at the Bell Centre, they decided not to chase Sergachev for his flagrant act and that is unforgivable. I expect a statement from the NHL on Wednesday apologizing for the mishandling of the sequence.
