Calgary Flames Consider Parting Ways with Star Player

BY JOSEPH AGOSTI    JUNE 11, 2023  (6:35 PM)
The Calgary Flames are coming off of one of their most disappointing seasons in their long history, and they may be open for business in the coming months.

New GM Craig Conroy and new coach Ryan Huska will want to put their own stamp on the team, and move on from the failed Darryl Sutter era.

Before Sutter was fired last month, there were reports that multiple players issued trade requests if the archaic coach was retained.

Sutter ended up being fired and the players rescinded their requests.

Despite this, Elliotte Friedman says that the Flames may still be an active team on the trade market:

"I think one of the names you're going to hear a bit is Noah Hanifin from Calgary, He's got one more year like a lot of the Calgary players do and I think teams have begun to ask the Flames: 'What are you thinking about here..... what's the future'."

Other Calgary stalwarts with one year left on their deals include veterans Elias Lindholm, Tyler Toffoli, Chris Tanev and Mikael Backlund.

Friedman also made a connection to the in-flux Winnipeg Jets:

"A lot of us are talking about Winnipeg right now, and for good reason, but low key Calgary could be just as interesting a team as Winnipeg over the net few weeks depending on how all these players feel about their futures."

The next few months will be very interesting to see what happens to Noah Hanifin, and the rest of Calgary's veterans.
